Content is King... but Content in Context is even better
I had a great discussion with a former client now friend regarding what makes their business different and their product so much more valuable than that of their competitors. Notes & Queries is a distributor of greeting cards, gift-wrap and stationery with the edge of being Expert Curators. They are content specialists who facilitate the creation of collections... for each of their diverse retail accounts... as if each retailer were a gallery seeking to tell a story or speak to and connect with its customers through product and merchandising.
"A curator (from Latin: cura meaning "care") is a manager or overseer. Traditionally, a curator or keeper of a cultural heritage institution (e.g., gallery, museum, library or archive) is a content specialist responsible for an institution's collections and involved with the interpretation of heritage material. The object of a traditional curator's concern necessarily involves tangible objects of some sort, whether it be inter alia artwork, collectibles, historic items or scientific collections. More recently, new kinds of curators are emerging: curators of digital data objects, and biocurators."
