There are few people that don't respond well to a kind smile. People want to be happy. Buyers are people too... really! They may not be happy at the moment based on the situation... so don't overdo your bright and cheery attitude if you can sense they are having a bad day personally or professionally. Offering a smile is like giving a gift... and giving it will make you feel good, too
Here's the other interesting thing about smiling and what it does...
Your smile is an unspoken conversation, "Hi! I'm happy, I'm acknowledging your presence and I hope you are happy as well." The smile you receive acknowledging and returning your smile, "Hi! I notice you're happy and I'm happy as well", is an invitation to begin a spoken conversation. And selling is a conversation to gain understanding and acceptance.
