After my father retired he had the opportunity to be a stand-in for Robert Duval in one of his lesser known movies, The Handmaid's Tale. My father resembled the very talented and award winning actor in body type, hairstyle, and facial features so the shot could be framed, the lighting corrected and the movement adjusted. But my father wasn't Duval's twin or sound-alike, so he couldn't fool anyone up close, and for sure he didn't have Duval's acting chops... nor could he possibly be his stunt-double.
A stunt-double can do all sorts of things an award winning actor can't or won't do. The best stunt-doubles look exactly like the actor in the action sequence, which requires intense training and physical commitment to create a result that looks and feels true. But can they act? Probably not.
What you really need is an actor that can do their own stunts within a talented ensemble cast.
That's my movie-making metaphor for the day!
